Dutton Ranch premiered on Paramount+ on May 15, becoming the latest show release from Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone universe.

Unlike some of Sheridan’s other standalone shows, like Landman and The Madison (coming soon), this series continued the original Yellowstone storyline, which is exactly why fans were so excited for it.

Dutton Ranch

Dutton Ranch focuses on fan-favorite returning characters Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (played by Cole Hauser). Their new story begins after they make the difficult decision to leave Montana and start a new life in Texas.

We won’t dive into all the drama-filled moments that have happened so far, but if you want to catch up on everything that’s gone down, Country Rebel has been sharing full recaps after each episode. You can find those here.

The first season has been a record-breaking success. It delivered the biggest series premiere in Paramount+ history, with nearly 13 million viewers tuning in during its first week.

So it came as no surprise when fans learned that the show has been renewed for a second season.

But even with more to come, some dedicated watchers are wondering just how long they’ll get to follow Beth and Rip.

If you’ve watched Sheridan’s shows before, you know he isn’t afraid to tell a story and move on. Some of his productions are miniseries or designed for a limited run, like a season or two.

While Sheridan isn’t the showrunner for Dutton Ranch, could the series still end up following the same pattern as some of the shows he’s been more directly involved with?

According to Reilly and Hauser, they aren’t entirely sure.

There’s been a lot of speculation about how long Dutton Ranch will last. Many fans are hoping it sticks around for five seasons like Yellowstone did, or even longer if possible.

But the truth is, no one knows the answer just yet. Reilly and Hauser recently spoke with The Hollywood Reporter and addressed the rumors that five seasons are already planned.

They explained that, at least for now, nothing has been confirmed.

“We haven’t heard five,” Reilly said. “I think we’re taking it one season at a time.”

In all honesty, neither of them has had much time to think about the future. Filming the first season has been such a whirlwind that they’ve mostly been focused on getting through it, which hasn’t left a lot of time to look ahead.

“This has been a beast,” Hauser admits. “We haven’t had any time to even think about it either. We literally filmed to the end of March and we’ve been on the road selling the show.”

Reilly added, “I think we have some ideas about season two, with where we left season one. We can’t talk about the ending, but we’re super excited about where it goes and so we already know sort of where the beginning is and that’s exciting.”

Do Reilly and Hauser even want to stay with the show for that long? The answer is yes, but with a few conditions.

Reilly says she doesn’t want the show to feel forced.

“If the writing is good,” she said regarding filming the show for many seasons to come.

She continued, “You never want to hold on too tightly in this profession, right? So honestly, we’re very grateful to be here and if we get a chance to keep making something we’re proud of, then we’re here. If not, we’re both working actors and we’ll be fine.”

Hauser has the same mindset, and for him, as long as fans are happy with what’s being put out, he’s just as happy to keep playing his part.

“It would be pretty cool, though,” he says. “I always feel like if the audience continues to speak the way that they have about the show for the last 10 years or so, then I would love to continue to entertain them.”

For now, though, fans can rest easy knowing Reilly and Hauser will be returning for Season 2.

And before that, there’s still one more episode left in Season 1.

The season finale of Dutton Ranch will drop this Friday, July 3, exclusively on Paramount+.
