Oreana is Carter’s semi-love interest. She is the granddaughter of 10 Petal Ranch’s mysterious matriarch, Beulah, and the daughter of the troubled Rob-Will (Jai Courtney).
Although Carter fell head-over-heels for Oreana right away, she doesn’t seem to feel the same way. Fans have been curious to see how their relationship will develop throughout the series, which was recently renewed for a second season.

Since Oreana’s motivations haven’t been revealed yet, she’s proven to be a polarizing character. Some fans love her, while others despise her and want Carter to steer clear.
Viewers have also expressed uncertainty about Oreana’s age. In fact, her actress, Natalie Alyn Lind, says it’s the #1 thing people often get wrong about her character… so she wants to set the record straight.

“Everybody keeps on making these references to the fact that they think my character is supposed to be a high school student,” Lind recently told PEOPLE.
She added, “A huge part of our storyline is that my character is supposed to be years older than Finn’s. My character is supposed to be 24, and his character’s supposed to be 19.”
That makes Oreana about the same age as Lind in real life. She just celebrated her 26th birthday on June 21.

Lind says she thinks it’s “funny” when fans don’t understand how old Oreana is supposed to be. She remarked:
“I always find it really funny when [fans are] like, ‘She’s supposed to be playing high school.’ I’m like, no, not really, but you’ll see more about that later. I feel like — hopefully, fingers crossed — season 2 will be able to dive more into her background and her story to show who she is as a person.”
Natalie Alyn Lind Reacts To Fans’ Love-Hate Relationship With Her Dutton Ranch Character
Although some fans deeply dislike Oreana, Lind says the strong response to her character is “exactly what I was hoping for.”
She said that’s why it’s been a lot of “fun” to play Oreana on Dutton Ranch:
“It’s really fun to play a character that people either absolutely love or absolutely hate,” Lind told PEOPLE. “I love it. I love when people love my character, and I love when people hate my character, because that means that we’re doing something right.”
She continued to say, “I find it boring to play a character that everybody just loves.”

People have compared Carter and Oreana’s dynamic to the one between Beth and Rip. Time will tell if history will repeat itself with their love story, or if the plot of Season 2 will take the characters’ plotlines in an entirely different direction.
But first, the Season 1 finale of Dutton Ranch is scheduled to drop on July 3. The episode will be available to watch on Paramount+.
