Ugh, as if we could forget how Cluelesstotally defined the ‘90s and teen comedies.
Loosely based on Jane Austen‘s classic 1815 novel Emma,writer and director Amy Heckerling‘s modernized film adaptation hit theaters on July 19, 1995. The coming-of-age movie gained a cult following, forever endearing fans to the iconic Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone), a stylish teen from Beverly Hills with a heart as big as her enviable closet.
Sure, Cher is spoiled, but she also has second-to-none matchmaking and makeover skills and an impressive social prowess that helped her navigate high school politics while finding love for everyone around her.

The film grossed $56 million at the box office, per Box Office Mojo, and changed the cultural and fashion landscape. Though Clueless captured a moment in time for the “whatever” generation, Cher’s magnetic charm and the script’s forever quotable one-liners and ‘90s slang have continued to win over audiences of all ages.
In fact, decades later, fans are still coming up to Silverstone, raving over the contemporary retelling.
“People are really respectful,” the actress told PEOPLE in April 2020. “Sometimes they’ll shout catchphrases, like ‘As If!’ but mostly they come up and are like, ‘I’m so sorry, I just have to tell you, you must get this a million times a day, but I love Clueless so much.’ People are always kind and loving about it.”
Here’s what Silverstone and the rest of the Clueless cast have been up to since signing off with “I’m Audi“ 31 years ago.
1. Alicia Silverstone as Cher Horowitz

Before Clueless turned her into a teen icon, Silverstone had a few movie credits under her belt, including 1993’s Crush, and even starred in a couple of Aerosmith music videos.
Playing Cher, however, was her breakout moment, even if she felt “like an exhausted little professional” at the time.
“I loved playing Cher. I loved the material. But I was tired; I’d been doing like nine movies back to back when I did Clueless,” she told PEOPLE in 2020. “I was tired but grateful for the acting opportunity, and I had no idea what it would become. I had no idea ... but I am so grateful that people love it so much.”
After playing the lovable SoCal queen bee, Silverstone went on to star in films like Batman & Robin(1997), Vamps (2012), The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017), Reptile (2023), Pretty Thing (2025) and Bugonia (2025). In the early 2000s, she voiced Sharon Spitz on the animated series Braceface and starred on Miss Match.
In 2012, Silverstone reunited with her former Clueless costar Jeremy Sisto on the ABC sitcom Suburgatory,and she continuedtoappear on the small screen on Paramount Network’s American Woman, Netflix’s The Baby-Sitters Club and Acorn TV’s Irish Blood. She also appeared in the 2025 Netflix holiday movie A Merry Little Ex-Mas.
In addition to her acting work, Silverstone is a passionate animal- and environmental-rights activist who launched The Kind Life, a lifestyle website dedicated to vegan eating and environmental awareness.
News broke in April 2025 that Silverstone was set to reprise the role of Cher on a sequel series on Peacock, but the reboot got scrapped in April 2026. However, she hasn’t left the character behind over the years, stepping back into her fashionable Mary Janes a few times on TV.
In June 2018, she wore the character’s classic yellow plaid skirt and jacket and performed on a set reminiscent of Cher’s bedroom to Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” on Lip Sync Battle. She also recreated a famous Clueless scene alongside her son Bear Blu in a hilarious TikTok clip in June 2021 and appeared as Cher in Rakuten’s 2023 Super Bowl commercial.
Silverstone married musician Christopher Jarecki in June 2005, though they filed for divorce in May 2018. The exes welcomed Bear in May 2011, who also made a brief cameo in A Merry Little Ex-Mas.
2. Stacey Dash as Dionne Davenport

Stacey Dash appeared in Moving (1988), Mo’ Money (1992) and Renaissance Man (1994) before playing the no-nonsense Dionne in Clueless — a film she’s proud shaped a new kind of teen story.
“[Clueless] started a trend, but I don’t think anyone hit it quite like we did,” she told Elle in 2015. “We weren’t mean girls. We weren’t snobbish. We were just teenagers who had opinions, but we always wanted to help. We always thought we could make you better. We were willing to give you a try if you were willing to change the way we wanted you to.”
After originating Dionne, Dash reprised the role for the Clueless spinoff sitcom, which ran from 1996 to 1999, and later reunited with costar Silverstone in a November 2022 TikTok video captioned “Forever Cher and Dionne BFFs.” (Dash was also set to play the character again for a Peacock reboot based on Dionne, but it was ultimately scrapped.)
She’s kept busy outside of the Clueless universe, too, appearing in films like View from the Top (2003), I Could Never Be Your Woman (2007), Sharknado: The 4th Awakens (2016), First Lady (2020), Four. (2024) and The Doctor With Two Faces (2025), and on multiple TV series, including The Strip, Celebrity Circus, The Game and Single Ladies, and in music videos such as Kanye West‘s “All Falls Down.” She also launched the web series Stacey Dash Is Normal and appeared as a guest commentator on Fox News from 2014 to 2017.
In September 2019, Dash was arrested on suspicion of alleged domestic violence after reportedly getting into a physical altercation with her fourth husband, Jeffrey Marty.
Dash pleaded not guilty to a domestic battery charge, and the charge was dropped the following day.
Dash filed for divorce from Marty in June 2020 after two years of marriage. She has two adult children: son Austin and daughter Lola.
3. Brittany Murphy as Tai Frasier

After her breakthrough role as the bubbly, naïve Tai, Brittany Murphy‘s film career took off, landing her starring roles in 8 Mile (2002), Uptown Girls (2003), Just Married (2003) and Sin City (2005).
Murphy also had a budding musical career — her dance single with Paul Oakenfold, “Faster Kill Pussycat,” reached No. 1 on Billboard‘s dance chart.
She married writer-director Simon Monjack in April 2007.
Murphy died tragically of pneumonia in December 2009 at age 32. Her last credited role was the psychological thriller Something Wicked, which had a limited release in 2014, more than four years after her death.
Many of Murphy’s Clueless castmates have shared memories of her over the years, including Elisa Donovan, who told PEOPLE in May 2025, “I really always think about Brittany. She would come into hair and makeup like this whirlwind of all this energy, and they would always be worried like, ‘No, no, no, don’t mess up your hair!’ [She’d be like], ‘No, I got it. I got it. I’ll fix it.’ And then would run out. She just had so much vibrance.”
4. Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2)/paul-rudd-clueless-watn-30-years-070225-e125003e4cc54c689f2a0bf5f17a8dae.jpg)
After making Cher (and audiences) swoon as Josh — Cher’s former stepbrother and a college student studying law, who becomes a pivotal part of her growth — Paul Rudd made Lisa Kudrow‘s Phoebe fall in love with him as Mike Hannigan on the last two seasons of Friends.
“It’s crazy. I fell in love with me,” Rudd told PEOPLE in July 2015 of his breakout gig. “Clueless was a game changer.”
Since then, Rudd has become a household name. He’s starred in major comedies like Anchorman(2004) and its 2013 sequel, The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Knocked Up (2007), I Love You, Man (2009), This Is 40 (2012) and Anaconda (2025), and had memorable TV stints as Bobby Newport on Parks and Recreation and Ben Glenroy on Only Murders in the Building.
Oh, and he’s a superhero, too, starring as Ant-Man in several Marvel projects. His other film credits include The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), Death of a Unicorn (2025) and Power Ballad (2026).
The Emmy-nominated actor was named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive in November 2021.
Rudd married screenwriter Julie Yaeger in February 2003. The couple share two children: son Jack and daughter Darby.
5. Donald Faison as Murray Duvall
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(748x263:750x265)/donald-faison-clueless-watn-30-years-070225-fef1c7b0adf042aab3274c5143332fc6.jpg)
In true Murray fashion, Donald Faison followed his on-screen girlfriend Dash to the Clueless sitcom, and he’s been eager to revisit his Clueless character ever since.
“I would want to say do another movie, to be honest with you,” Faison told PEOPLE in February 2024. “Anything.Clueless 2 would be awesome, and it’s not us anymore, it’s our kids. And now Cher is the Mel Horowitz character. I would think that Cher and Josh would still be together, even though it’s a little weird.”
After landing small but memorable roles in Waiting to Exhale(1995), Josie and the Pussycats(2001) and Uptown Girls with former costar Murphy, Faison got his next big break playing Dr. Chris Turk on Scrubs for nine seasons, a role he reprised for the ABC reboot in 2026. He also starred on TV Land’s The Exes and NBC’s Extended Family.
Faison was married to the late Lisa Askey from 2001 to 2005. In 2012, he wed Jessica Simpson‘s bestie, CaCee Cobb. They have two children — son Rocco and daughter Wilder — and he has four older children from previous relationships.
6. Elisa Donovan as Amber Mariens

After stamping the iconic “whatever” hand gesture in the 1995 film, Donovan reprised her role as Amber for the Clueless sitcom and the 2023 Rakuten Super Bowl ad with Silverstone.
Three decades later, Donovan is still proud to be tied to Clueless, admitting she doesn’t “know what it is not to be associated” with the film.
“But it’s wonderful because it has brought people a lot of joy,” she told PEOPLE in May 2025. “To me, I feel like it’s something that is based in a beautiful piece of literature. So I’ve always been super excited about that, and it’s incredible. This is a really challenging and wonderful business, and it’s nice to do something that really means something to people, so it’s been great.”
Post-Clueless, Donovan appeared in A Night at the Roxbury (1998) and The Dog Who Saved films. She also starred on Beverly Hills, 90210 and as Morgan Cavanaugh on Sabrina the Teenage Witch,as well as played Joey Fatone‘s love interest in *NSYNC‘s 1999 music video for “Thinking of You (I Drive Myself Crazy).”
She has blogged about parenting for PEOPLE and released the memoir Wake Me When You Leavein 2021. The actress later starred in the 2025 Hallmark film Double Scoop.
In October 2012, Donovan married Charlie Bigelow and gave birth to their daughter Scarlett Avery a few months earlier in May.
7. Jeremy Sisto as Elton Tiscia
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(750x248:752x250)/jeremy-sisto-clueless-watn-30-years-070225-f8e220f3e67141cd8b6721076cdcbf3e.jpg)
In the years since playing the obnoxious rich kid Elton in Clueless, Sisto has said it’s “pretty cool” to have his name attached to such a timeless project.
“Clueless somehow kind of can span more years than a lot of things,” he told PEOPLE Now in November 2019. “It’s pretty cool, I mean, listen, to be a part of something that translates from one generation to the next ... being on things that stay with the culture as the culture changes around you is a rare thing.”
The actor went on to keep audiences on their toes, starring on the show Six Feet Under and in the 2007 film Waitress. From 2008 to 2010, he played Det. Cyrus Lupo on the NBC stalwart Law & Order, and from 2011 to 2014, he had a major part on the ABC sitcom Suburgatory.
Sisto has led the cast of the CBS proceduralFBI since 2018, and guest-starred as another federal agent on the network’s spinoff series CIA throughout 2026.
Sisto was married to actress Marisa Ryan from 1993 to 2002. He later wed Addie Lane in October 2009, and the pair share two children: daughter Charlie Ballerina and son Bastian Kick.
8. Breckin Meyer as Travis Birkenstock
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(749x0:751x2)/breckin-meyer-clueless-watn-30-years-070225-de4c3af8d9094f56a7080159717e077a.jpg)
Breckin Meyer played the slacker stoner Travis Birkenstock in Clueless, which was based on film roles played by Sean Penn and Keanu Reeves in the 1980s.
“I got a call for it, and in my head, I think I kind of knew who the guy was, I knew that sweetness. I was going to Beverly High and lying about my address at the time. I had lived in Beverly Hills, so I kind of just took [Penn’s Jeff] Spiccoli and Keanu from Bill & Ted’s [Excellent Adventure]and him in Parenthood,” Meyer revealed during a Clueless panel with The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in June 2025. “There was this thing that Keanu did, which was this very liquidy shrug ... and that became almost this puppy dog golden retriever human.”
He added, “It was the sweetness in [Travis] that I really connected with.”
After finally leaving the grassy knoll, Meyer landed a breakthrough leading role as Josh Parker in Road Trip (2000), which he followed with Rat Race (2001), the Garfield films and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009). Other film roles include Unpregnant (2020) and Busboys (2026).
On the small screen, Meyer spent three seasons on the TNT dramedy Franklin & Bash with fellow ‘90s star Mark-Paul Gosselaar of Saved by the Bell fame and appeared on the final season of NBC’s Good Girls. He also voiced multiple roles for the animated series Robot Chicken, for which he was nominated for five Emmy Awards as a writer, and Joseph Gribble on Fox’s King of the Hill.
In addition to acting, Meyer is an accomplished musician — he was the drummer for Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello‘s side project The Nightwatchman.
Meyer was married to writer and director Deborah Kaplan from 2001 to 2012. They share two daughters, Caitlin and Clover. He has been dating influencer Kelly Rizzo, the widow of the late Full House star Bob Saget, since February 2024.
9. Dan Hedaya as Melvin Horowitz
:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc():focal(753x339:755x341)/dan-hedaya-clueless-watn-30-years-070225-1ef947a3beb24088a4c559ce8d542788.jpg)
Known at the time for his Emmy-nominated guest performance on NYPD Blue and stints on Cheers and The Tortellis, Dan Hedaya appeared in Clueless as Cher’s strict lawyer dad. When his character Melvin wasn’t preparing for legal cases with his understudy and former stepson Josh, he was arguing with Cher over what constitutes a dress.
The actor has praised the movie for its cross-generational appeal, telling Today in July 2020, “The movie, for a teenager, is bursting with life. You know, it’s about those important teenage years. And there’s a great spirit about the movie. Clothing and music and dancing and boys and girls — it’s got all the elements that [are] part of a teenager’s life. So, that to me explains its continuing popularity.”
The actor has had a long career in film, starring in The Usual Suspects (1995), The First Wives Club(1996), Mulholland Drive(2001) and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016). He also had a guest-starring role on Monk as the title character’s long-lost father.
Hedaya has since appeared on shows like Gotham and Blue Bloodsand in multiple films, including The God Committee (2021) and Influenced (2026).
10. Wallace Shawn as Mr. Wendell Hall

Wallace Shawn was a known actor and playwright before his days of wrangling high school students and falling in love with Miss Geist (Twink Caplan), including memorable appearances in films like 1987’s The Princess Bride.
The actor has continued to look back fondly on his days as Bronson Alcott High’s Mr. Hall, and the fans who’ve cherished it for over 30 years.
“The Clueless fans ... tend to be rather smart and people of goodwill,” he told Today in 2020 in honor of its 25th anniversary. “I meet people all the time who love that movie, probably because it’s a world where people are very fond of each other, and the paranoia and hatred of the real world is left far behind.”
Shawn’s prolific credits include everything from voicing Rex in the Toy Story franchise and Gilbert Hugh in The Incredibles, to recurring stints on Gossip Girl, Young Sheldonand Evil. Among his post-Clueless films are Vegas Vacation (1997), Maggie’s Plan (2015), Marriage Story (2019) and Waiting for Godot (2021).
In 2005, he was named a Master American Dramatist by the PEN/Laura Pels International Foundation, and he has appeared on MSNBC as a political commentator.
Shawn lives with his partner, writer and professor Deborah Eisenberg, whom he’s been with since the 1970s.
11. Justin Walker as Christian Stovitz

Justin Walker is still best known for playing Christian, Cher’s love interest-turned-platonic shopping buddy, who dresses even better than she does.
He had some small acting roles through 2005 but eventually left Hollywood behind.
In 2010, Walker became the owner of Teddy Teadle’s Grill in Rancho Mirage, Calif. Per LinkedIn, he had also been a partner and CEO in Draftster.com, a now-defunct fantasy sports website, since 2000.
12. Twink Caplan as Miss Toby Geist

After Miss Geist’s wedding to Mr. Hall, Caplan reprised her Clueless role on the TV series and served as the show’s executive producer.
“The one amazing thing about Clueless is you can watch it over and over and over, and the lines still resonate,” she told Today in 2020. “And it’s still relevant today.”
Caplan has also appeared in Look Who’s Talking (1989), A Night at the Roxbury and Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie (2012). In 2010, she had a memorable guest-starring role on Community as a dance teacher.
