Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 1 of “Dutton Ranch.”
Jai Courtney will not be in season 2 of “Dutton Ranch,” as his character, Rob-Will Jackson, was fatally shot during the season 1 finale, which aired July 3. Rob-Will was the son of wealthy ranch owner Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening).
“I’m up to 20, maybe 21 deaths onscreen now,” Courtney joked during an interview with Esquire published earlier this month. “This one was interesting because the actual blow happens off-screen, technically.”
“Dutton Ranch” follows “Yellowstone” characters Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) as they leave Montana for a new life in Texas with their adopted son Carter (Finn Little). There, they clash with rival rancher Beulah (Bening).
Reilly, Hauser, and Bening are all confirmed to reprise their roles in season 2. Little is expected to return as well. Ed Harris, who plays veterinarian Everett McKinney, will play a bigger part in the upcoming season.

“I think season 2 is going to feel very much more Ed’s show,” Reilly told TV Insider earlier this month. “This is not the Beth and Rip show. This is Dutton Ranch, and there’s four lead characters.”
Reilly added that it’s “such a privilege” to work with Bening and Harris.
“I’ve said this before, I feel like they made us legit. We could have just been a little soapy spinoff, and we’re not because of them,” she said. “We’re a drama, we’re a new show, and it’s got some heavyweights in it. We’re very proud to be working with them.”

The “Dutton Ranch” season 1 cast also included Juan Pablo Raba (Joaquin “Kino” Jackson), J. R. Villarreal (Azul Ramos), Marc Menchaca (Zachariah Moss) and Natalie Alyn Lind (Oreana Lynn Jackson).
During a July 6 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reilly played coy when asked if there will be more cast exits ahead of season 2.

“Who knows! It’s up for grabs, I think, right now,” she said.
Hauser chimed in to say, “Everything’s on the table, and that’s the great thing. The one thing that’s más importante is that we get our kid back. That’s going to take a couple episodes, hopefully. But Carter needs to come home.”
